In El Pla d’Urgell in 2020, a net selective collection of 41% of the waste was achieved, but with the goal of reaching the recycling objectives of the European Union, in June 2021, the Pla d’Urgell County Council, began a pilot test in the municipalities of Sidamon, Palau d’Anglesola and Vilanova de Bellpuig, with the implementation of the smart opening system with a mobile phone or an NFC card in underground containers. This selective collection system, together with the collaboration of all citizens, will manage to increase selective collection and recycling rates, reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill, improve the quality of selected waste, as well as the detection of incidents and the efficiency of waste management.
